CORON ISLAND
Coron Island is located at the northern tip of Palawan in the Philippines. The entire island is designated as an Ancestral Domain (R04-CADC-134). The island is known for a variety of sporting and leisure activities. Snorkeling and diving are two of the most famous and sought-after activities. It is also famous for its white sandy beaches, fresh water and tropical vegetation, and coral reefs.The island is known for lagoons that are wide, deep and clear water.The island is the habitat of the Philippine Cockatoo.
It is known for several Japanese shipwrecks that sank there during World War II. Out of 24 ships that were bombed during naval warfare between America and Japan, the remains of 12 warships are found in depths of 25 to 40 meters. These are the Akitsushima, Okikawa Maru, Irako, Kogyo Maru, Olympia Maru, Taiei Maru, Kyokuean Maru, East Tangat Gunboat, Tangat Wreck, Lusong Gunboat, Skeleton Wreck, and Nanshin Maru. Areas around shipwrecks are perfect for snorkeling and diving for the water is usually calm.
Tourists could go kayaking, soak in hotsprings, climb over hills, have a boat ride, or be amazed by watching birds over mangrove swamps.
